The Evolution of the IT Field

Many people think nothing of turning on their computers and browsing the Internet, creating documents, or uploading information onto their personal devices. For the youngest members of today’s world, computers and information technology are staples of their everyday lives. However, the technology that most of us know and rely on so greatly now is indeed something of a new invention.

Historians might argue that, from the dawn of mankind, people have always sought new ways to store and maintain information. But the IT field has only really evolved in significant ways within the last 60 years. In a discussion of the evolution of the modern IT industry, these recent milestones stand out.

The ENIAC Team and the First Computer

In 1946, eight inventors, known as the ENIAC (Electrical Numerical Integrator and Computer) team worked together to create the first electronic computer for general use. This early modern age computer operated through the use of vacuum tubes and could carry out basic calculations. The idea of two primary designers, John Mauchly and J. Prosper Eckert, its creation was funded by the U.S. Army and is now widely appreciated as the grandfather of modern computers. Even with its ability to perform basic calculations, however, it was unable to store its own programs.

StorageThe 1970s Invention of the Microprocessor

From 1946 through the next few decades, inventors took that early electrical computer designed and sought to make it better and more available to the public. By the mid-1970s, inventors like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Stephen Wozniak had created models that functioned using central processing units and microprocessors. These computers were capable of storing information in a single chip. Even so, the prices for these inventions were beyond what most people could afford back then, with the average cost being more than $1000.

Microsoft and Easy Data Storage

As computers continued to be transformed and perfected into smaller machines, more people began to afford and buy these machines for their homes and businesses. By the early 1990s, many schools and businesses began to back up their information with floppy discs and CD-ROMs. Despite this technology becoming more widely available during this decade, it was not uncommon for many organizations to still rely on other forms of data storage, such as keeping student records in paper files or storing customers’ addresses on notecards in file cabinets. Off-site facilities, or data centers, started being used by busy, web-based businesses to process, store, and dispense records and info remotely.

Computer with peripherals21st Century Virtual Cloud Technology

It has been within the last decade that we have witnessed perhaps the greatest innovations in computer and information technology. With floppy disks and CD-ROMs giving way to flash drives and virtual clouds, information technology literally knows few bounds as more people flock to the online arena to communicate with each other, create and store documents, and even operate entire businesses virtually. People no longer have to use large desktop computers to carry out any of these functions. Information can be easily accessed and stored using a tablet, a smartphone, or a laptop.

The field of information technology has grown by leaps and bounds just within the last 60 years. These innovations now define most of modern life and are staples of the youngest generations today.

Author and artist Molly Pearce also has a degree in information technology and uses the web to facilitate her career. To learn more about modern IT practices and processes, such as the employment of data centers, Molly looked to reliable websites and her own educational experiences.

The History Behind E-Cig Technology

The History Behind E-Cig Technology

The technology behind the modern electronic cigarette as we know it today is credited to a Chinese man, Hon Lik. However, we researched the topic by reading many vapor cigarette reviews and learned that the smokeless non-tobacco cigarette had a patent filed way back in ’63 by a man named Herbert A. Gill, and it was approved two years later.

The description filed for his design nearly 50 years ago spoke of substituting a harmless alternative to tobacco cigarettes that replaced the burning tobacco with moist, flavored air that was heated. It also cited that medication could be inhaled under direction from a medical practitioner.

Incidentally,Mr. Gill also received a punt in the December 1965 edition of Popular Mechanics which described the mechanics of his battery powered invention. The article also suggests the device could be used to administer medication to asthmatic patients.

The original device was certainly much more involved and the official diagram shows ten pieces made up the mechanics of Mr. Gill’s creation, as opposed to only two or three pieces that are used in a modern electronic cigarette. It definitely is not something you would be able to assemble when you’re running out of the house, when you’re late for work or on a five minute smoke break as you’d probably spend your entire lunch hour trying to piece it all together.

Wither Mr. Gill didn’t have the resources or he got talked out of the idea but it wasn’t until 2007 that these potentially life-saving pieces of technology got a face lift and made their appearance on the commercial market. Perhaps it was just a matter of timing and fifty years ago people may not have been ready for the change, because today they are growing rapidly in popularity and have been embraced by people who have tried every NRT trick in the book and just can’t kick the habit for good.

Practicality is key, and this is where Hon Lik made the biggest contribution. The modern e-cig is sleek and streamlined and has the technology at its finger tips to be able to replicate an actual cigarette, from automatic vapor generation to the little LED that lights up on the other end. We also have the technology behind rechargeable batteries powering this innovation which is a big area the original design would have been lacking in during the 1960s. We’re not sure how the air would have been heated in the original patent, but we’re pretty sure it wouldn’t be nearly as effective as the atomizer technology that is available today.

The Lamborghini Reventón is a mid-engined sports car that debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. It ranks as the most powerful and expensive Lamborghini road car to date, costing one million euros. The official press release stated that only 20 vehicles would be released to the public, with one additional car (marked as 0/20) produced for the Lamborghini Museum. Although early rumours indicated the total number would actually be 100, each Reventón is clearly stamped with its number in the sequence of 20 between the drivers and passengers seats.
Although the exterior is all new, almost all the mechanical elements (including the engine) are taken directly from the Murciélago LP640. According to the official press release, the exterior styling was inspired by the “the fastest airplanes”. To emphasize this, Lamborghini staged a race between a Reventón and a Panavia Tornado fighter plane.

Performance

Initial reports suggest that the 6.5 L (400 cu in) V12 received a power boost of approximately 20 hp (15 kW), but the output is officially stated to be 640 hp (480 kW). According to the official release, the Reventón accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in the same time as the Murciélago LP640 (3.4 seconds), and is capable of reaching a maximum speed of over 340 km/h (210 mph). Using the internal speedometer, the recorded top speed was displayed as 356 km/h (221 mph)

These images of a futuristic “new Mercedes-Benz SCL600” automobile – including technical innovations such as a joystick in place of a steering wheel, a video monitor in place of a rear-view mirror, and swiveling gull-wing doors – are difficult to classify as “true” or “false”. They are genuine photographs of a real car, but that car was constructed as a research vehicle, not as something to be made available for purchase by consumers, and isn’t really “new” … it was introduced over ten years ago. The above-displayed photos are pictures of DaimlerChrysler’s F 200 Imagination concept study, produced by the Mercedes-Benz design team and unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1996 … DaimlerChrysler has continued experimenting along these lines with the three-wheeled F 300 Life-Jet, the F400 Carving two-seater, and the F500 Mind four-door sedan.
