How To Make The Most Of Your Settlement

How To Make The Most Of Your Settlement

Share/Bookmark

Making the most of your settlement can often be a difficult task. What many people don’t realize is that some agreements stipulate that you will get your money monthly over a prolonged period of time and not a lump sum. It is an extremely frustrating thing and can cause you not to enjoy your compensation or lottery win.

While receiving your money monthly will be the most advisable way however it doesn’t allow you to enjoy the money. Incremental payments allow you to only have access to a certain amount per month which can prove extremely annoying and limiting. Some companies out there offer you a reduced total sum for a one of lump payment into your account.

You receive a large sum of money and they assume your payment plan and make profit towards the end of it. It is a win, win situation and it is a great way in which you can make the most of your own money.

This article will highlight three ways in which you can make the most of your settlement.

Explore the World

how most settlement How To Make The Most Of Your Settlement

Having access to a large sum of money instead of a series of incremental payments can allow you to plan the trip of a lifetime you have always dreamed of. The majority of us work to pay the mortgage and bills and then any extra money we save for a rainy day. Our existences are pitiful and if you stick with incremental payments the likelihood of that changing is very small.

Obviously the payments will be taken care of by the claim money but the change to your life will only be small as you never really have true access to the money you have been awarded. If you take a hit and accept a smaller overall sum you can have access to the full amount and then do as you wish with it.

You can save sum but also have the ability to explore those parts of the world you have always wanted to. I believe travelling the world is one the greatest things one can do and the majority of us never get the chance to do it. Take the Structured settlement payout and have a little fun in your life while you still can because in the blink of an eye you will be all grown up and living a life filled with regret and missed opportunities.

Help People Out

People often live their lives dreaming of the chance to help out their friends and family. If you accept the reduced payout you will have the option to do this, spread your prosperity and ensure everyone you care about can revel in your newfound wealth. Money is a made up commodity and if you didn’t have the compensation you wouldn’t have missed it.

My advice is take the amount offered and embrace the world for what it is, a haven of wonderful spectacles.

Save for a Rainy Day

For those of you who are keen on saving having access to the lump sum will allow your to do that also, I mean it isn’t hard to transfer some of it into a high interest account and save it for that rainy day. Access to the lump sum gives you many more opportunities and you would be naive to let it pass.

Martin is interested in financial law and is especially keen on finding ways to make sure financial negotiations run smooth and work well for both parties involved. When he isn’t trying to negotiate something he is usually mixing his own brew of tea and giving it to his friends and family.

Top Ten Most Recognizable Cartoon Dogs

Share/Bookmark

Dogs in cartoons have been popular going back over to over 50 years ago, which is why a list had to be made of the top ten cartoon dogs that you’d be most likely to recognize.

top ten most recognizable cartoon Top Ten Most Recognizable Cartoon Dogs

10. Blue

Anyone that had a child after 1996 will instantly recognize Blue from the Nickelodian show “Blue’s Clues.” The show was designed to help children learn while watching television at home, and it quickly turned into one of the most successful children’s cartoons of all-time.

9. Astro

Astro was the beloved dog of Elroy on the iconic television show “The Jetsons.” Astro gained popularity by fans for his fun loving personality despite always doing something that would anger George.

8. Huckleberry Hound

Huckleberry Hound has been around since the late 1950s, and is best known for his slow talking southern accent. The character started on “The Huckleberry Hound Show,” but has also appeared on countless other cartoons.

7. Brian Griffin

Brian Griffin may be one of the newest cartoon dogs created, but that does not make him any less recognizable. While most of the dogs on this list come from wholesome shows, Brian Griffin is known for constantly drinking martinis on the raunchy cartoon “Family Guy.”

6. Santa’s Little Helper

“The Simpsons” is the longest running television show in the history of the United States, so it makes perfect sense for their dog to make this list. While Santa’s Little Helper may not be in every episode of “The Simpsons,” it would not be the same show without him. He is also one of the few cartoon dogs that does not have any human traits.

5. Odie

Odie may be Garfield’s sidekick, but that does not stop him from being one of the best cartoon dogs of all-time. Odie may not be the smartest dog, but his uplifting personality makes him impossible to dislike.

4. Lady & the Tramp

They may be two dogs, but it is impossible to seperate these two iconic Disney characters. They may have only appeared in one film, but “Lady and the Tramp” has been seen by hundreds of millions since its release in theaters in 1955. The film has become so iconic that it is still shown to children today.

3. Pluto

Pluto made his first appearance with Mickey Mouse in 1930, and he is still appears in cartoons today. Pluto is the only one of the Disney cartoon animals that does not walk around as a human.

2. Scooby-Doo

This crime solving dog has appeared in hundreds of television, and has even starred in four feature films. The Scooby-Doo character has become so iconic that he has had his own animated series nearly every year since his debut in 1969.

1. Snoopy

It is impossible to have a list of cartoon dogs without including Snoopy. While Snoopy is the most recognizable cartoon dog, he may also be the most recognizable cartoon character of all-time. Snoopy has been around since 1950 and it did not take long for him to become more popular than his owner Charlie Brown.

most expensive diamonds The 5 most expensive diamonds in the world

There have been cases where people become instantly rich after they’ve found a big and rare diamond in their backyards. Although this is incredibly rare, it has been known to happen from time to time.

Here are the five of the world’s most coveted and valuable diamonds in the world:

The De Beers Centenary Diamond. Valued at 100 million USD, this unique precious stone actually has the highest grade of a colorless diamond. Its weight is 273.75 carats or 54.77 grams. It was produced by the famed De Beers Mine, and you may be surprised to hear that it’s only the third largest diamond that has been produced there.

The Hope Diamond. This is the diamond that inspired the movie Titanic. The Hope is now safely guarded at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington DC.  A unique thing about this diamond is that it looks blue in color because of the high number of traces of boron in the crystal structure. Its color changes completely under an ultraviolet light. It weighs 45.52 carats, which makes it less heavy than some of the other entries of this list. However, it is valued at 350 million USD.

The Cullinan. With a weight of 106.75 carats or 621.35 grams, this is the largest rough diamond that has ever been mined. Once it was polished, it became the Cullinan and weighed 530.2 carats or 106.0 grams.

The Sancy Diamond. The Sancy Diamond is a 55.23 carat or 11.05 grams of Indian origin. It shines a pale yellow and was once owned by the Mughals of Antiquity. Its well-known history is believed to have begun in 1570 It was one of the first diamonds to be cut with symmetrical facets. This diamond is actually considered to be priceless.

The Koh-I-Noor. For many experts in the subject, the Koh-I-Noor may have no competition in the world of diamonds. It’s a 105 carat (21.6 grams) diamond with a famous history. The Koh-I-Noor is another diamond that has no price. It has been owned by many members of the Persian, Mughal and Sikh royalty. It is currently property of the British crown and it’s very popular with visitors and tourists.

Whether we realize it or not, precious stones have a perpetual spot in our hearts and minds. Be it through grandma’s most precious emerald brooch or your dad’s first diamond studded watch, or your dream solitaire. But do we ever realize that there could be so much more to our favorite gemstones than just joyful nostalgia or wishful thinking? From granting invisibility to absorbing all negativity, we give you the special significance of seven of the most famous gems and how you can wear or gift them.

1)   Sapphire

Many cultures believe that Sapphire protects its wearers from accidents and natural calamities. The stone is also said to soothe the harrowed mind. Many people (especially soon-to-be married couples) are choosing sapphire over diamond as it is cheaper, without falling short of beauty and quality. Sapphire is also said to symbolize the eternal fire of love. It seemed to be Princess Diana’s preferred stone too. She wore it as a sapphire-diamond ring. You can do the same, as wedding bands or anniversary or birthday gifts. Sapphire rings look stunning on not just women, but men too!

2)   Ruby

A cousin to Sapphire, very few things are as mesmerizing as the Ruby. Ruby is as strong as it is beautiful (it is the second hardest natural mineral). Ruby is often considered as the stone of contentment, and is regarded as a symbol of success, passion, loyalty and sincerity. It is also said to offer insight and ward off negativity. This stone looks perfectly elegant on women and just as royal on men. Rubies set in elegantly cast gold earrings or necklaces for women, and heavy set silver rings for men symbolize the very epitome of grandeur.

3)   Onyx

The Onyx effortlessly exudes simplicity, edge and a dark charisma. Onyx is said to be the separator. It separates the bad from the good, the darkness from the light, grief from happiness. In olden times, Onyx was considered to grant its wearer with sharp senses, stealth and invisibility. Of late, this stone seems to be a growing favorite among many men due to this its perfect balance of boldness and class. For the perfect anniversary or birthday gift for him, look no further than an Onyx ring set in sterling silver.

4)   Emerald

The rich green color of the Emerald instantly brings to mind prosperity. However in ancient cultures, this stone was considered as a symbol of stability and genuine affection. It is also said to make the brain sharper. The lush color of this stone also greatly represents “eternal spring” and was Queen Cleopatra’s favorite gemstone. The beauty of Emeralds is that they look grand set in anything- be it gold or silver jewelry. An emerald brooch set in silver is the perfect gift to make the lady feel like the perfect queen, while gold and emerald cufflinks or an emerald set in a gold ring makes the man a king to match.

5)   Diamond

The world’s hardest substance, the purest form of carbon, a girl’s best friend; diamond is the crown prince of all positive superlatives. And it deserves every bit of it all. Because diamonds are so clear and pure, it comes as no surprise that it is believed to be a symbol of purity, thus becoming the symbol for the purest form of emotions- love. This explains why it is the most preferred stone for the holy bond of matrimony. That, and the fact that they can be carried off by both the sexes with equal panache, in almost every form- right from watches to solitaires to even pens! After all, who can resist these sparkly little splinters of stars fallen from up above.

Josh Ferdinand designs fashion jewelry and is extremely good at that. In today’s post, he has shed light on some of the most precious gemstones in the world and has also talked about their significance.

cosmetic surgery 8 Of The Most Artful Cosmetic Surgeries Ever Performed

Arsenio Matias – Both Hands Reattached

In February 2005, both of factory worker Arsenio Matias’s hands were cut off in a freak industrial accident. Luckily for him, co-workers were quick to rush to his aid, placing his severed hands on ice and stopping further blood-loss by tying a belt around his wrists and helping to keep his arms elevated.

When Matias reached hospital, doctors undertook an 11-hour miracle procedure, managing to reattach both hands in a single operation. Following a year of therapy and strength training, Matias was able to regain basic functionality, and at a glance, you wouldn’t even realise such a horrific accident had even befallen him.

Emily Stinnett – Full Scalp Graft

Whilst playing in her back garden at her home in 2004, Emily Stinnett was tragically mutilated in a vicious attack by the family pit-bull. Emily had her scalp ripped off in the ordeal and was rushed to hospital for treatment. Because of her age, doctors were initially unable to treat her, and advised that Emily’s scalp had to be retrieved in order for her to undergo cosmetic surgery.

A search ensued and the pit-bull’s stomach was even opened up to retrieve the missing scalp. Following reattachment surgery and several successful skin grafts, amazingly, Emily fully recovered and was able to return to school with minimal scarring.

Charla Nash – Full Facial Reconstruction

Charla Nash made international headlines following her horrific attack by a crazed chimp in early 2009. Nash’s resulting facial injuries included a torn off nose, ripped out eyelids and mutilated lips. In a ground-breaking procedure, Nash underwent a full facial transplant in Boston to rebuild her face.

The transformation between before the surgery and after can only be described as a remarkable work of medical art. Although left blinded by the attack, Nash’s facial features were completely rebuilt, restoring a form of normality in the wake of her ordeal.

Israel Sarrio – Left Arm Reattachment

In March 2004, truck driver Israel Sarrio’s left arm was completely torn off in a catastrophic traffic accident. Following a lengthy medical procedure, doctors managed to reattach Sarrio’s left arm, but unfortunately the surgery led to infection above the reattached arm.

In an unheard-of feat of medical marvel, Spanish surgeons saved Sarrio’s arm by attaching it to his groin, which in turn kept the arm healthy by maintaining a steady flow of blood through the abundance of veins and arteries.

The arm remained there for a week, whilst doctors worked tirelessly to stop the spread of infection. Upon removal of infection, the arm was successfully reattached. Amazingly, Sarrio made a complete recovery with minimal scarring, suffering only minor loss of mobility in his fingers.

Hu Junhua – Age-Defying Facial Surgery

It’s something all too common these days: aging women going under the knife to recapture their youth and beat nature. The case of Hu Junhua, however, is a very different story altogether. Following the birth of her son roughly 7 years ago, Junhua began to age at a bizarrely expediential rate.

In just 7 years, the 28 year old Chinese woman resembled a 75 year old elderly person with sagging skin, excessive wrinkling, a poor complexion and drooping eyelids. Unable to explain or cure her excessive aging, doctors instead offered plastic surgery completely free of charge.

Junhua underwent extensive facial surgery, including a face-lift, brow-lift, blepharoplasty (eye surgery) and a neck-lift. Following treatment, Junhua looked almost 50 years younger and was able to look at her former-self again in the mirror. Exactly what medical condition sparked this curious case is still unknown.

Katie Piper – Gaining More Than a new Face

The former-model Katie Piper suffered a well-publicised, brutal attack in 2008, in which sulphuric acid was thrown over her face. Following the attack, Katie underwent surgery in London, where her facial skin was completely removed, rebuilt with a substitute material and then skin grafted on top.

The extensive surgery was pioneered at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and it is believed to be the first of its kind, successfully completed in a single procedure.

Following a lengthy recovery and follow-up operations, Katie has since fought to raise awareness of burn-victims, taken part in a documentary and most importantly, regained her beauty and confidence.

Her story through cosmetic surgery has doubtlessly made her a role model for countless women across the world.

Lakshmi Tatma – The Marvel of Cosmetic Surgery on Conjoined Twins

Lakshmi Tatma was born in an Indian village in 2005 most unlike any other child- she was the visible twin of a pair of ischiopagus conjoined twins. Previously dependent on her parents for help in everyday tasks due to an extra set of arms and legs, Tatma now looks like a perfectly healthy Indian child.

Her transformation is due to an extensive, superhuman cosmetic procedure, lasting 27 hours and involving more than 30 surgeons working in shifts. Before her operation, Tatma was seen as a spectacle and her parents were even approached by a circus company that offered to buy her for entertainment purposes.

Today, she looks just like any other child. She attends school as normal and even enjoys playing sports with her friends

The Most Profitable Prints in History

The Most Profitable Prints in History

Share/Bookmark

prints history The Most Profitable Prints in HistoryInterested in printing? Fascinated by the history of ink on paper and the communication of images to the world? We’re used to hearing about the staggering prices in the art salerooms as oil paintings by the masters go for fortunes, as well as installations and sculptures by modern day geniuses, all of which, we imagine, took a long time to create. Even while appreciating the artistic talent of the photographer, it is harder to comprehend how a print could command equivalent sums. Some of them fetch millions of dollars. Have a look at this list of some of the most expensive prints and be wowed by just how much one photographic image can fetch.

5 – Andy Warhol, by Robert Mapplethorpe, 1987, sold in 2006 for $643,000.

Andy Warhol was idolised by Robert Mapplethorpe while he was studying at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn in the 60’s. He later took a shot of him in 1987, choosing just the head and shoulders. Warhol is facing the camera with his typical blank expression.

4 – Dovima with Elephants, by Richard Avidon, 1955, sold in 2010 for $1,151,976

The model, Dovima, is wearing an Yves St Laurent dress designed for Christian Dior and the image of her posing against the elephants was taken by Avidon at the Cirque d’hiver, Paris, in August 1955. He considered her to be one of the last great elegant beauties of her time and this photograph became one of the defining images of the time.

3- Georgia O’Keefe (Hands), by Alfred Stieglitz, 1919, sold in 2006 for $1,472,000

Alfred Stieglitz was a pioneer of photography as an art form and spent a lot of his career establishing a dialogue between photography, painting and sculpture. The idea that an expressive portrait could be made without including the head in the image was radical.

2 – Untitled #96, by Cindy Sherman, 1981, sold in 2011 for $3,890,000

Cindy Sherman is an American photographer and film maker best known for her conceptual portraits. She stars in her own photos as the model, changing character in each series to convey a different message. Untitled 96 depicts her as a lovelorn woman and when it sold in 2011 it was the most expensive to date.

1 – Rhein ll, by Andreas Gursky, 1999, sold in 2011 for $4,340,000

Gursky’s print made in 1999 shows a panorama of Germany’s most famous river and despite being a somewhat bleak image of a dark river under gloomy skies, it beat Cindy Sherman’s previous record sale to make a whopping $4.34 million dollars. Christy’s described it as “a dramatic and profound reflection on human existence and our relationship to nature on the cusp of the 21st century”. The Guardian, however, described it as a “sludgy image of desolate, featureless landscape.” Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder.

The Worlds 10 Most Expensive Vintage Wines

The Worlds 10 Most Expensive Vintage Wines

Share/Bookmark

Most of us really enjoy a good bottle of wine. However, as much as we love a tipple, we wouldn’t consider paying much more than twenty quid for a decent bottle. In fact many of us would shudder at the thought of shelling out much more than a hundred pounds, let alone thousands. There are many wealthy people out there however who wouldn’t think twice about spending a huge amount of money on a great quality vintage. Here we look at the most expensive sold in history.

Screaming Eagle Cabernet

This 1992 red wine was sold at a charity auction in 2000 and reached the astronomical price of $500,000. Businessman Chase Bailey bought the 750ml bottle although some wonder whether the price is not a true reflection of its value due to the money being donated to charity. Maybe Bailey was just being very generous?

Chateau Lafite 1787

The famous man behind the publishing dynasty, Mr Malcolm Forbes treated himself to a bottle of Chateau Lafite 1787 way back in 1985 for an eye watering $160,000 – imagine how much that baby would be worth in today’s money! It had the initials Thj inscribed into it and is rumoured to have first belonged to President Thomas Jefferson.

Chateau d’Yquem

A bottle of Chateau d’Yquem sold in 2006 for an amazing $100,000 was noted as quite unusual since it is the most expensive bottle of white ever sold. The vintage year was 1787 meaning that the anonymous buyer now had a piece of history to add to his wine cellar.

Massandra 1775

Another very old wine, this time a Massandra 1775, was sold at famous London auction house Sotheby’s back in 2001. Not strictly a wine, but a very old sherry, this certainly won’t be heading for the trifle any time soon.

Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1951

This sale was for a bottle of Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1951 but the producers of this wine are considered far more important than the actual bottle of wine. Penfolds Grange Hermitage are known for producing the most expensive wine in the world and apparently there are only 20 bottles left in existence, this being one of them. It sold for $38,420 in 2004 to an Australian wine collector.

Cheval Blanc 1947

Another vintage wine to be sold at Sotheby’s, six bottles of Romanée-Conti DRC 1990 was sold for $28,113 in 2006. The wine is extremely rare as the yield in that part of France is so low and so just one bottle of the stuff is quite a find.

A bottle of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1945 was sold at famous auctioneers Christies in 1997 for $23,000. This wine is one of the most sought after in the world and considered one of the best of the 20th century, hence the hefty price tag.

Screaming Eagle 1994

Funnily enough, three bottles of Screaming Eagle, the same producers of officially the most expansive wine on the list, sold for $3,833 a bottle at Christies in Los Angeles in 2000. Although expensive, it was a far cry from the $500,000 1992 vintage sold in the same year.
