Help! There Are Bugs In My Car: Tips To Get Rid Of Pests

Help! There Are Bugs In My Car: Tips To Get Rid Of Pests

Share/Bookmark

You decided to take your car out for a drive, and while you are on the road, you notice that something is crawling up your leg. You can’t concentrate on the road because you want to scratch at the itchy areas, and then bam! You collided with another vehicle because you took your eyes off the road for a few seconds.

This may seem like an unlikely scenario; however, a lot of people get into accidents because of this kind of distraction. This distraction is usually caused by ants, bedbugs, or other insects and bugs in your vehicle. These pests may not look like much but their presence can be very dangerous and disastrous. Aside from the grim scenario mentioned above, these pests can also cause car problems. To this end, you need to make sure that your car is pest-free. Here are a few tips to get rid of bugs and insects in your car.

help there are bugs car Help! There Are Bugs In My Car: Tips To Get Rid Of Pests

General Car Cleaning Tips

One of the main reasons why insects and bugs invade your car is due to their need for food and warm shelter. If you are always leaving behind your trash, such as soda cans, candy wrappers, fast food wrappers, or bags of chips in your car then you are inviting these unwanted passengers into your vehicle. To this end, you need to properly clean both the interiors and exteriors of your vehicle. Keeping your car sanitary and clean can discourage these pests from invading your space.

  • Remove the seat covers and rugs and then wash them. Throw them in the dryer at the highest allowable setting for about half an hour to an hour. Heat washing and drying the seat covers and rugs can kill any bedbugs, carpet beetles, and other pests that might have attached to them.
  • Vacuum the seats and floors of your car. Pay close attention to carpets, seats, seams of the upholstery, and so on. You should also vacuum the exteriors of your vehicle, such as around the hood opening and trunk opening. This is where the leaves and dirt can accumulate. In addition, vacuum all the doors. This will get rid of ants, roaches, spiders, and other bugs.
  • Make sure to get rid of any debris or trash from the floorboards and under the seats of your vehicle.

How To Naturally Get Rid Of Bugs In Your Car

Diatomaceous Earth: You can apply diatomaceous earth on all the cracks and seams in the upholstery. You should also sprinkle this substance on the carpet. This substance is a natural rock talcum powder which can easily eliminate insects and bugs; however, it is not harmful to humans.

Vinegar Mixture: You can mix half a cup of water and half a cup of vinegar. Mix them together and pour it onto a spray bottle. You can spray it on your tires to keep pests away. Removing their point of contact can significantly lower the risk of infestation. You can also use this mixture to wash down hard surfaces in your vehicle. Do not worry about the smell because it will eventually go away once the mixture dries.

Eucalyptus Leaves: You can place a bag of eucalyptus leaves or a sprig of eucalyptus under the car seats or in the trunk. The scent of eucalyptus can naturally deter insects and bugs.

Lemon-Scented Cleaner: Use this to wipe the surfaces of your vehicle. This will not only remove dust and dirt, but it will also discourage pests, such as spiders, ants, and roaches.

Boric Acid: You can create bait for these bugs and insects. Simply mix boric acid and syrup, and then place it under the seats or in the trunk. The sweet scent of the syrup can attract bugs and insects while the boric acid dehydrates and kills them.

If the infestation in your vehicle is so severe, you will need to call a professional pest control contractor. They can easily and efficiently get rid of bugs and insects from your vehicle.

How Outpatient Treatment Can Help

How Outpatient Treatment Can Help

Share/Bookmark

We hear about a lot of addicts and alcoholics who do inpatient drug and alcohol rehab, where the clients live at the treatment facility while getting clean.

how outpatient treatment can help How Outpatient Treatment Can Help

What Happens After Treatment

Less often, we hear about what happens after inpatient, residential treatment. For a lot of people in rehab, a great step down from inpatient is outpatient addiction treatment. In this level of rehab, clients live either at home or in a sober living home, and then participate in a rehab program during the day or evening.

If you are in school, outpatient addiction treatment is a great way to continue what you learned in inpatient treatment, and to still have a good level of accountability as you re-enter “real life.”

If you have children, and are usually their primary caregiver, outpatient rehab is a great way for you to return to that role, while sustaining the sobriety you worked hard for in inpatient treatment.

If you are returning to work after inpatient rehab, attending outpatient addiction treatment after work, for the evening session, will continue your recovery at the time of day you actually need it the most. You can use the treatment program to handle work stress, to keep yourself from hitting the bar after a long workday, and to be involved with a group of peers who are working toward the same goal of recovery while getting back into their lives.

What Balance Looks Like

Outpatient addiction treatment offers all addicts and alcoholics a chance to find balance. Recovery is a very real part of your life, forever, and needs to be incorporated in as a priority. Clients in an outpatient program learn what that can look like in their everyday lives.

In some cases, outpatient addiction treatment is the first choice for addicts and alcoholics when they are ready to get sober. Can’t be away from school, children, or work? Participating in a treatment program that works around your class schedule, or that you can go to while your kids are in school, offers a great option.

The Reality

Your reality includes you going back to work, or not really being able to miss work at all, so you choose a program that you can attend at night, after your work day. From the start of your recovery, after detoxing, you learn how to stay sober while living your day-to-day life.

There are celebrities who have chosen the outpatient addiction treatment route. If you watched Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, you saw clients participating in the inpatient portion of rehab, but on the last day of each season, as clients graduated from the Pasadena Recovery Center’s inpatient program, many of them chose a sober living home and an outpatient program as the next steps in their lives.

With recovery in mind, as the main focus, the clients who took Dr. Drew, and his treatment team’s, advice stood the best chance at staying clean and sober.

Although the show has been controversial, the idea of inpatient treatment followed by outpatient addiction treatment plus sober living is a great model for addicts looking to continue a healthy life in early recovery.

How Physiotherapy Works To Help People With Sports Injury?

How Physiotherapy Works To Help People With Sports Injury?

Module 1: The aim of Physiotherapy

The main goal of physiotherapy in general and especially sports injury physio is to restore normal movement and body function in cases of disability, injury and illness. In addition to treating specific issues a sports injury physio may also suggest numerous ways in which you can improve your overall wellbeing. For instance some specialists may recommend that you exercise regularly.

physiotherapy sports injury How Physiotherapy Works To Help People With Sports Injury?

Most physiotherapists like to take a more holistic approach by considering the body as a whole rather than focusing on just one illness or injury. For instance back pain can stem from a number of issues which include:

  • Bad posture
  • Bending or awkwardly twisting
  • Standing in one place for an extended period of time
  • An inherited spinal deformity
  • Overstretching
  • Lifting heavy stuff incorrectly

Many physiotherapists in Sydney may recommend that you maintain good posture and perform core stability exercises to cure back pain.

Module 2: Physiotherapy Approaches

Physiotherapists in Sydney often use an array of treatment techniques. We will look at a few conventional ones below:

Exercise and Movement

Physiotherapists often use a combination of therapeutic exercises and movement which is designed to strengthen the area. These exercises need to be performed usually daily for a given number of weeks. For someone who is recovering from a mobility issue like a stroke a physiotherapist may suggest a few exercises that target the affected body part or region. For instance a recent study showed that circuit class therapy is very effective in post stroke rehabilitation. It can improve a person’s ability to walk faster and longer.

Manual Therapy

This type of therapy often requires using the hands in order to mobilize the soft tissues and joints. This technique is most efficient when it comes to:

  • Relieve pain and improve relaxation
  • Improve the movement of various body parts
  • Improve blood circulation
  • Helps to improve the fluid to drain from different parts of the body efficiently

physiotherapy sports injury1 How Physiotherapy Works To Help People With Sports Injury?

Module 3: Effects of Massage Therapy

There is a lot of evidence showing that manual therapy is very beneficial in treating a number of musculoskeletal conditions like chronic back ache. There are cases in which massage is also used as part of the treatment program. There is evidence to suggest that massage is useful for a range of conditions like that of the side effects of cancer treatment.

Module 4: Other Physiotherapy Techniques

There are some other physiotherapy techniques which can be regarded as unconventional but are effective to some degree.

  • The ancient art of acupuncture is said to reduce pain. Fine needles are strategically inserted into various points of the body. This may be used along with physiotherapy to reduce pain and inflammation.
  • TENS or Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation is a machine which delivers a small electric shock to the affected area via two small electrodes. The sensation produced by this shock can suppress and block pain signals from reaching the brain.
  • Ultrasound is high frequency sound waves which penetrate deep within the tissue to stimulate cell activity and improve blood circulation. It is also shown to reduce muscle spasms and improve healing.

There is not enough scientific evidence to show that the above treatments are effective. For instance, there isn’t enough evidence to suggest that TENS is a reliable form of pain relief treatment.

Module 5: Aquatic Therapy

Most physiotherapists in Sydney will not prescribe or use aquatic therapy. However, the few that do often do so based on their own personal research and experience. This type of physiotherapy is carried on in warm and shallow swimming pools or a special hydrotherapy pool. This therapy is often effective at improving blood circulation, relaxing muscles and relieving pain

Help When Being A Carer Becomes Too Much

Help When Being A Carer Becomes Too Much

Share/Bookmark

All over the country there are thousands and thousands of people of all ages and from all walks of life who either by choice or through necessity devote most of their time to caring for a family member or partner. Whether it is a long term disability, senility or a serious illness, sometimes people need full time care to manage normal everyday tasks, and sometimes the only person available to help is a family member or friend.

help being carer becomes too Help When Being A Carer Becomes Too Much

Of course, giving up so much of your time and energy to help someone else is incredibly stressful, and can feel very lonely for the carer. If you are currently feeling the strain after a period of looking after someone who needs you, you may therefore feel it is time to stop taking all of the responsibility on your own.

Why You Should Get Help

help being carer becomes too1 Help When Being A Carer Becomes Too Much

Caring for someone else is not only stressful, it also means putting your own life on hold, often for years, if you try and do it alone. You may also have a lot of anxiety in your life as you worry about the future and what might happen to the person you care for if you aren’t around. You may feel like you are the only person who knows what to do and who the person you care for can trust, however in many cases, carers feel a lot better when they engage someone else’s help and share the role. Whether it is for a large amount of the time or just a few hours a week, having somebody else who can be involved in the situation can shed huge amounts of pressure.

Where to Look for Help

help being carer becomes too2 Help When Being A Carer Becomes Too Much

The most obvious place to look for help is among other family members and friends. They may not realize quite how much you do for the person you care for, and may be more than happy to pitch in and give you some time off. If that isn’t an option, there are charities who offer assistance to people in your situation for all different kinds of disabilities and illnesses.

However, if you can afford it, you may want to consider a more permanent option in terms of hiring a professional carer or aide to come and work with the person you look after on a regular basis. You can contact a local health care agency to discuss the possibilities and the options that they can offer.

Some people feel guilty about bringing in a professional nurse or other care giver, or as if they have failed in their duties, however it is important to remember that the most important things are the well being of both the person you care for and yourself. A professional, trained person can also make life more interesting by bringing a new person into the person you are looking after’s life, and with some conditions a new friend and new experiences can be a real boon.

If you are having difficulties in your life as a carer, remember that you are not alone and there are likely to be people, whether from professional organizations, charities or your own circle, who can get involved and give you a break.

The author of this post, Jennifer Wesley, is a nurse at a leading home care company. She likes to help others and is passionate about the work she does. Her hobbies include reading novels and watching movies.

Heroin Vaccine May Help Cure Addiction

Heroin Vaccine May Help Cure Addiction

Share/Bookmark

Remember Pac-Man? The little yellow video game guy who goes through a maze gobbling up different colored creatures? And of course, there who could forget about Ms. Pac-Man.

Well, a new heroin vaccine may that may help cure addiction works kind of like Pac-Man, and Ms. Pac-Man. When someone has been using heroin for years and is ready to stop, a vaccine that’s being worked on right now may help that process by working through the body gobbling up the heroin particles, seemingly eliminating them from the user’s body.

The Vaccine

Kim Janda, the study’s senior author, helped come up with the idea for the vaccine, and then the vaccine itself. While he was working on a drug that counteracting drug addiction, at one point he realized how ridiculous it felt to be creating one drug to stop the effects and use of another drug.

Why not create something more like the vaccine for measles that treats the problem, rather than substituting one drug for another? So he and his team did just that.

Pac-Man Like

The Pac-Man-like vaccine works by triggering the body to release heroin-fighting antibodies. When using heroin, the person who has been vaccinated will not get high. Instead, his or her body is gobbling up, or neutralizing, all heroin that is in the bloodstream, before it reaches the brain.

In other words, heroin will no longer feel good to the user; the drug will be metabolized by the vaccine before it is able to do anything positive for the person seeking the high. From there, what’s the point in putting harmful chemicals into your body? There isn’t one, you won’t get high. Pretty cool, right?

Not A Quick Fix

While this sounds like a quick fix, the vaccine is not meant to stand alone. The heroin vaccine may help cure addiction, but there are many other things a heroin addict needs to adopt into his or her life to fully stop using.

The vaccine could be viewed as more of a crutch, or training wheels, during early recovery when relapse is very likely. Knowing that the vaccine has been administered hopefully keeps a newly-clean addict from relapsing, but if that doesn’t work, then the physical interference will (i.e. the addict no longer gets high when using heroin, so a relapse is worthless.)

Why Haven’t We Started Yet

So why aren’t we hearing about people getting vaccinated for heroin addiction? Well, the vaccine has only been tested on rats up to this point. Unfortunately, financial matters have kept the heroin vaccine, that may help cure addiction, from being tested on humans. As you know, the system of a rat is less intricate than that of one of us, so it is unknown how well the results will translate to actual heroin addicts.

What do you think? If the vaccine that causes your body to fight off heroin as if it’s an invader works on people, and can be integrated into substance abuse treatment as a tool for heroin addicts, would you be willing to try it to get yourself, or a loved one, off such a dangerous drug?

Treatment Takes A Lot Of Work

Right now, treatment for heroin addiction takes a lot of work. People who become addicted to the drug, and other opiates like prescription pills (OxyContin, Vicodin, Norco, etc.), have a severly hard time detoxing from the drug and then staying clean. Heroin has a pull on its users unlike many other substances. Through individual and group therapy, plus holistic modalities and individual treatment plans, heroin addicts can recovery and live a successful life without the drug.

Can adding a vaccine only help those people who are working hard to start a new life? More research is needed, but stay tuned! This heroin vaccine may help cure addiction one day.

printing How Printing Can Help Your Business

For the most part, the majority of businesses are very simple to explain and to understand. In most cases creating a business simply means creating a service or a product that can be sold for greater than the amount it cost to supply and then connecting with your market in order to sell a lot and keep the profit.

Of course it’s connecting with that market that’s the crucial part and that will help your business to soar or to flop. You can have the best product or service in the world but without gaining exposure and promoting it in the right ways you won’t get any sales. In fact so critical is this part of a business that it can actually stand on its own. If you can find a way to promote someone else’s product or service and keep a commission or profit then all you need to do is to find a way to bring that offering and those people together.

Printing can help you do this in many ways and so is a crucial for many business models. Here we will look at some of the things you can do with printing to promote your company and increase your profits.

Using Printed Marketing Materials

printing1 How Printing Can Help Your Business

Printing marketing materials is one of the most cost effective ways that a company can increase their awareness. While getting an advert into a newspaper or a magazine will cost you a fair amount of money, the printing costs alone won’t cost you much and particularly if you can find good digital printing services. Once you have these materials there are then many ways you can use them. For instance you can simply hand out your printed flyers, or you can stick them up in public areas where they will be seen. More effective still, is to carry them so that you can hand them out as a way to promote yourself and your business when networking at events.

Flyers can also be posted through letterboxes which is an effective form of promotion for many businesses, or they can be given away at tradeshows with goodie bags and even packaged in with delivered products to encourage repeat business.

Flyer Businesses

There are many businesses that are based entirely around the use of flyers. A perfect example of this might be to use flyers to promote a business offering commission. For instance, there are many online shops that will offer commission to marketers who send customers their way. Sometimes the marketer will even get commission on every single purchase that customer makes in their lifetime with the site.

An incredibly simple business model then is to create a landing page promoting that site with your own affiliate links, and then to hand out flyers near retail parks and other places where you might be able to find the right demographics. This way your only cost is hosting and the production of those flyers and once you’ve got a few people signed up you can find yourself earning passively for years to come.

Today’s guest post is contributed by David Volt. He is the head of the marketing division of a leading fashion magazine. An astute person, he believes that sometimes the simplest of methods end up paying you rich dividends. An avid blogger, he likes to share his opinions on various blogs.

Top Strategies And Services That Can Help Make Moving Home Much Easier

Top Strategies And Services That Can Help Make Moving Home Much Easier

Share/Bookmark

Did you know that moving home is rated by psychologists as one of the most stressful ‘life events’ we can go through? According to Seyle’s ‘Life Events Stress Rating Scale’ it is right up there with a death in the family, or losing a job and anyone who has moved home recently will probably agree that while it’s not quite as traumatic as either of those things, it certainly does take over your life and leave you reeling.

But the good news is that there are things you can do to make moving home a lot less stressful – and if you understand these strategies and employ them then you’ll find it goes a lot more smoothly and takes up a lot less time. Here are some tips to help make your next move less on-par with losing your job and more like… having a bad hair day.

Use Storage

One of the biggest stresses of moving home is that you have a very small window in which to move – this being the time between when you can move into the new property but haven’t yet sold the old one. Sometimes this is a very narrow opportunity, but by using a storage unit just for a month you don’t need to worry about it – and you can start moving things over much sooner.

Start Early

In general, starting early is highly advisable as it means you aren’t rushing around last minute to try and move all of your belongings. If you know you’re moving out, then start going through your old documents and things a couple of months in advance and whittling down your things. This way the job will never seem insurmountable.

Use a Spare Room

Of course the downside of starting early is that it means you’ll end up with mess all over the house as you take things apart and pack things into boxes which then makes it difficult to show people around. Unless that is, you were to designate a single room in the house for you to store all those boxes and things so that you could keep them organised and start work while keeping the rest of the home tidy and easy to move around in.

Buy Good Boxes

Moving home is stressful when you have to carry Tesco bags filled with all your belongings and cardboard boxes that are coming apart at the seems. Avoid this by investing in some decent boxes and bags – it’s well worth it for how much easier it will be to move.

Rent a Skip

Does looking at all the things in your home that need to be moved fill you with dread? Well then just take this opportunity to narrow those things down so that you don’t have too much to get rid of. It sounds ruthless, but believe me you can probably reduce your things by 50% and not miss any of it too much. (And if you do? Buy it again!) More to the point it will be liberating and give you a fresh start in your new home, while at the same time meaning you have much less to move. Use skip bin hire to provide yourself with an easy way to dispose of anything non-essential.

Wholesale Changes That Will Help With Your Weightloss

Wholesale Changes That Will Help With Your Weightloss

Roughly once a month an old friend will get in touch with me who I haven’t heard from in years. To begin with they’ll ask how I’m doing and we’ll go through the rigmarole of catching up, but after a few questions they’ll then get on to the real reason they’re calling – for advice on how to lose weight or build muscle. I’m a health and fitness writer you see and an amateur bodybuilder, and as such I’m always the ‘health fanatic’ in any group of friends. I’m not offended by this and I certainly don’t really mind – I’m well aware that if I worked in IT I’d similarly be required to answer lots of questions about computers – but what does get me is the fact that these people never learn. They ring up with great intentions, I write them the program or diet plan they’re looking for, and then they promptly give up within the space of a few weeks and never lose any weight.

And why is it? Is it the advice I give them that’s no any good? No – it’s simply the fact that their lifestyles aren’t conducive to getting into shape. They’re hoping to simply change what they eat and then see the pounds drop off, or to start a new training program and stick to it when they’ve learned from past experience that they can’t stick to them and they don’t change anything else.

The point I always try to get across then these days is that it isn’t enough to just change your training program or your diet, you need to look at the other factors in your lifestyle and at the root causes of your weight gain. By getting to the bottom of your issue rather than just trying to change one thing you will be much more likely to see permanent change that actually lasts and makes a real difference.

So what other kinds of things do you need to address? Well it’s different for everyone, but here are just a few things that you might want to consider looking at…

Your Psychology: Sometimes the reason we don’t lose weight or stick at a training program is more psychological than physical. Here it might be that we’re depressed and eating as a comfort for instance, or it might even be that we are punishing ourselves in some way. There are all kinds of unconscious drives and pulls that can make us less likely to be able to stick to our new routines, so it can be helpful to speak to a therapist or to get weight loss hypnosis to get to the bottom of what these might be.

Time: Working out or running regularly will of course take time and no all of us have that time to dedicate to our new regimes. If you find yourself without that time then you need to look at clearing your schedule so that you do, or even simply waking up a little bit earlier so you have an extra hour to train in the morning.

Tiredness: If your energy levels are low then you will find that you don’t have the energy you need to work out and that you start to crave carbs to fuel yourself. Any number of factors could address this issue whether it means just getting more sleep, or eating a healthier breakfast in the morning.

Social Pressure: If your friends all love cake and eat it in front of you every time you go round then this can make it very difficult to eat less. If these social pressures are an issue then you need to speak to your friends and tell them how they could support your new goals, or even ask them to join you so that they become an asset rather than a hindrance.

Contact Lenses Help Give Sport Stars A Sharp Eye For Their Game

Contact Lenses Help Give Sport Stars A Sharp Eye For Their Game

Share/Bookmark

Contact lenses have been a long established solution to poor vision in sport. Many sportsmen over the last few years have reported the benefits of wearing lenses instead of glasses.

One sport that they have had a significant impact on is cricket.  Long gone are the generation of batters, such as Geoffery Boycott and David Steele, who had some of the greatest runs in history, with a pair of spectacles perched on the end of their nose. In fact Daniel Vettori of New Zealand remains the only cricket player at a top level in international cricket wearing glasses.

The conversion to contact lenses from glasses has been a gradual process in sport, but has significant benefits.

In cricket for example, there is a high risk that your glasses might slip from your nose and either stall or ruin your game. This risk is eliminated by wearing contact lenses. You have more freedom of movement, while maintaining crisp vision.

Cricket isn’t the only game that sportsmen have benefitted from wearing lenses. Take a look at the ways that performance can be boosted in many popular sports:

High Contact Sports

Wearing glasses is almost completely pointless in sports that involve high levels of physical contact such as rugby and wrestling. There is an extremely high risk that glasses would be either knocked off your face, or completely damaged during the sport.

The glasses frame will also block some of your vision. Having a good peripheral vision will enable you to have a better view of your surroundings and opponents – in a sport such as rugby it would help you plan your dodge of an oncoming tackle.

Cycling

sport contact lenses1 Contact Lenses Help Give Sport Stars A Sharp Eye For Their Game

Glasses aren’t great for helmet sports full stop. The combination of helmet and glasses can be awkward and uncomfortable.

If you wear glasses you may run the risk of your vision becoming distorted by water droplets on the lens, or them fogging up if the weather conditions change.

In professional cycling it is common practise to protect your eyes from the elements by wearing goggles, and it can be difficult to fit a pair of glasses underneath.

Ball Games

sport contact lenses2 Contact Lenses Help Give Sport Stars A Sharp Eye For Their Game

In most ball sports, such as basketball, the game runs at a very fast pace. This means that you need to be aware of the position of all of the players and the ball at all times. You essentially need 360 degree vision. And a glasses frame can cut into this.

The glasses lens can also sometimes give a reflection, which could sometimes lead to a distorted image. This is obviously not ideal while playing a sport that is highly focused on accuracy.

Racquet Sports

sport contact lenses3 Contact Lenses Help Give Sport Stars A Sharp Eye For Their Game

In racquet sports such as tennis and squash there is a huge reliance on hand-eye-coordination.

Contact lenses have fewer minification and magnification effects than glasses do. This means that the size of a viewed object is more constant.

This is hugely beneficial in sport as it gives you a better level of depth perception, and accuracy.

Although contact lenses are great for many sports, they are not recommended for swimming or other water sports. This is because water contains bacteria, which can have a damaging impact on eyes if trapped behind the lenses.

If you are thinking of wearing contact lenses for sport, it is recommended to wear daily disposable lenses as they can be thrown away once you’ve finished exercising. This is to reduce the chance of returning any bacteria that might have got caught under the eye during the sport.

Always visit your Optician to get advice on the best type of contact lenses for you and your chosen sport.
